Do to #DM request I will now be posting my best advice on how to get into #neurosurgery #residency on#medicalmondays! There is a lot to discuss but in PART 1 I want to focus on a timeline that will put you in the best position to#match at the residency of your choice! • MS2: ROCK the BOARDS! (#usmlestep1) • Dec MS3: Purchase your #greenbergHandbook of Neurosurgery and start reading! Also start looking at programs and identify those which you want to do a#subinternship (full post coming on Sub I’s). Most students do 2 -3. (I did 3). Some subInternships are very competitive ( i.e.#BNI) so look at application timelines and get ready to apply. •June MS3: register for ERAS and begin filling out what you can on application, ask for LOR from your#medicalschool‘s neurosurgery department and for back ups any other surgical clerkships you excelled at! •July MS4: first subInternship! Obtain LOR! •Aug MS4: second subInternship, Obtain LOR! And start finalizing your application. •Sep MS4: ERAS opens for application submittal!!! Submit as close to first day as possible as interviews start in October, look at individual program due dates as well, some are sooner than when ERAS closes! SubInternship #3, and yes still get a LOR. Even if your application is submitted I mailed them to the institutions and they did review them. •Oct – Jan MS4 INTERVIEWS! Make sure to coordinate this time with your clerkships! •Mar MS4 #matchday ? …
Look forward to future posts which will address all of these puzzle pieces! And thanks to @doc_ambidexter for the#artwork! …
